About the Publication
About Us
An independent editorial publication documenting the history and heritage of whisky, published in Australia.
The Whisky Ledger is an independent editorial publication based in Australia. It publishes historical and educational writing on distillation heritage, industrial history and the cultural significance of whisky production. It is not a retailer, a distributor or a promotional platform, and it sells nothing.
Our Mission
Our purpose is to document. Whisky production has an unusually well-preserved written record — excise rolls, licence applications, parliamentary evidence, patent filings, Victorian industrial surveys and company archives — and that record is rarely presented to general readers without commercial framing. This publication exists to present it plainly.
Every page is written for readers aged 18 years and over. Nothing published here is intended to encourage the consumption of alcohol, and no article recommends, rates or evaluates any product.
Editorial Independence
The Whisky Ledger has no commercial affiliations. We publish no sponsored content, no advertorial and no paid partnerships with any distillery, alcohol brand, importer or retailer. We carry no affiliate links and receive no commission of any kind. Distilleries discussed on this site have no editorial input and no advance sight of published material.
No distillery, brand or retailer contributes funding, content or editorial direction to this publication.
The Editorial Team
Articles are researched and written by The Whisky Ledger Editorial Team, a small group of writers and researchers working in Australia with backgrounds in history, industrial heritage and long-form editorial writing. Material is published under the team byline rather than under individual names because research and drafting are collaborative.
All content is written in Australian English and follows the country-of-origin convention for the spellings whisky and whiskey.
Google Ads Australia Compliance
This publication was built to comply with Google Ads Australia's policies for alcohol-related content. Content is educational and historical rather than promotional; there is no encouragement of consumption; age notices appear on every page; and responsible consumption messaging is present throughout the site. Our full documentation is published on the Google Ads Compliance page.
ABAC Scheme Alignment
We align our editorial standards with the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code (ABAC) Scheme. Content does not appeal to minors, does not encourage excessive consumption, does not associate alcohol with hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery, and does not suggest that alcohol provides health, social, sexual, financial or other personal benefits.
We also observe the AANA Code of Ethics and the Australian Consumer Law requirements concerning misleading or deceptive conduct. Corrections and feedback are welcomed through our contact page.
